PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Freelance journalist adept at reportage, profiles, Op-Ed, and light-hearted service journalism for both print and online. I have a primary interest in women’s health, with an ability to take complex medical information and develop consumer-friendly stories. I have covered pilates for golfers, reproductive cancers, and the intersection where healthcare meets intellectual property, among other subjects. Another concentration is entertainment: I have written over 200 articles, profiling musicians, comedians and actors for TV and film.

SELECTED WRITING

  • The Advocate, 2,500-word entertainment feature, April 2009 - Career-spanning article on iconic folk-rockers Indigo Girls, featuring an interview with Amy Ray of the acoustic pair at the Los Angeles Troubadour club. The story features supplemental interviews with the Charts editor of Billboard and musician Joan Osborne.

  • Bergen Record, Op-Ed, September 2008 - Op-Ed on treating ovarian cancer as a chronic disease, featuring interviews with New Jersey oncologists and a survivor. A call for awareness, it made the cautious argument that strides in treatment have been made since comedienne Gilda Radner discussed her personal struggle.

  • New York Sun, Health reporting, September 2008 - Multi-source article on ovarian cancer, featuring interviews with New York University oncologists and a genetics counselor. This story highlighted signs and symptoms of the disease; gave the personal account of a survivor, and focused on genetic BRCA research.

  • ADWEEK, Media/culture report, June 2008 - Cover story on nonprofit One Laptop Per Child, which provides third-world children with $100 computers. Features interviews with the founder; volunteers in Cambodia, and an Intel rep who responded to charges that the chip-maker sought to sabotage OLPC’s efforts.
